Chiang Mai Flower Festival, Thailand

Taking place on the first weekend of February - which marks the end of the cool season - Chiang Mai showcases flowers and ornamental plants, particularly Thailand’s native chrysanthemums and damask roses. The festival features a parade of flower-embellished floats, marching bands and dancers, whilst the floral displays compete for a number of available prizes.

Roads are closed off to vehicles, creating a walking street market filled with food stalls, entertainment, and flower and plant stalls. The parade exhibits a range of traditional and experimental floats, coinciding with a beauty pageant in which candidates ride atop the floral floats.

Since 1977, the festival has been held to celebrate the nature and beauty of Northern Thailand and honours the local farmers. Bringing together locals and tourists, the festival acknowledges life, community, and nature. Embrace these elements and surround yourself with our rose and daisy ranges.

Bloemencorso Bollenstreek, The Netherlands

In keeping with the Netherlands’s flower-centred history of tulip mania in the seventeenth century, Bloemencorso Bollenstreek honours the arrival of spring, attracting over a million onlookers to the floral parade. Held annually since 1947, the festival takes place in late April each year during the peak blooming season. It primarily displays spring flowers - such as tulips, scented hyacinths and daffodils - painting the streets in a kaleidoscope of colour.

Stretching a length of 42 kilometres, the parade consists of an array of vivid floats and marching bands, creating an atmosphere of excitement in which the streets come alive with colour, symphony and energetic crowds.

Hanami, Japan

During the blossoming season, between late March and early May, the appreciation for the transient splendour of cherry blossoms occurs across Japan. Hanami, meaning flower-viewing, begins with the Japan Meteorological Agency’s announcement of the “cherry blossom front” - a forecast that tracks the progression of blooming cherry trees across the country, alerting the population tp when the Hanami celebrations will take place in each region.

The announcement is followed by social gatherings of groups immersing themselves in the blossoming trees to admire this annual phenomenon. With outdoor parties occurring across Japan, from daytime picnics to lantern-hanging at night, Hanami is a tradition that brings together communities in the shared wonder of the cherry tree’s ephemeral blossoming season.

Chelsea Flower Show, London

Following the first Chelsea Flower Show in 1913 - then called the Great Spring Show - the Royal Horticultural Society event has gained prestige globally.

The show takes place at the end of May, and features a trend-setting range of garden displays and floral exhibits. It is associated with British tradition; annually attracting visits from the Royal family, and offering afternoon tea and a selection of dining and drink venues.

After the displays are judged, awards are bestowed upon outstanding entries for categories including Garden of the Year, Best Construction and Best Houseplant Studio.

With a focus on sustainability, the flowers are sold to attendees from 4pm on the final day and it is a fantastic opportunity to gain horticultural knowledge and design inspiration. Feeling inspired? Recreate the Chelsea look with our range of plants.

Batalla de Flores, Spain

On the last Friday of each August, a parade of decorative floral floats travels down the streets of Laredo. The event has been in practice since 1908, and originally, daisies and chrysanthemums were the main flowers of the occasion, but more recent years have seen an increase in dahlias, carnations and daisies. The floats are ranked for various awards, and it is tradition that flowers are thrown between the floats and the crowds.

The floats are up to 8.5m long and 7m high and are built on the Thursday night before, known as “Magical Night”, (although the preparation for the festival begins in November). On Friday, the vibrant parade begins with a presentation of decorated horse-drawn carriages, marching bands, dancers, streamers and confetti. Alongside the parade, visitors can explore street markets, with the end of the festival being marked with a firework display.

Brussels Flower Carpet, Belgium

Taking place bi-yearly in Brussels’s Grand Place, volunteers come together to create an elaborate tapestry-like flower carpet. The event takes place in August over Assumption Day, the Christian Holiday of the Virgin Mary’s Assumption to heaven.

The Flower Carpet began in 1971 and attracts between 150,000 - 200,000 people. Each year it follows a theme related to Belgian history and is designed by an elected team.

2024’s carpet was designed by Océane Cornille and adopted art nouveau and street-style elements, with a theme of Rhizome to celebrate Brussels’s diversity and interconnected nature.

The carpet is 70x24 metres and consists primarily of begonias and dahlias. Share Brussels’s creative dedication and adorn your indoor spaces with our summer flower bouquets.

Feria de Flores, Colombia

Since 1957, Medellín, Colombia, has held the Feria de Flores. The festival takes place over ten days at the start of August and honours the independence of Antioquia from Spain in 1811.

Consisting of parades, concerts, flower exhibitions and folkloric tradition, this festival attracts almost two million people. Kicking off with a traditional opening procession, the parade is followed by a showcase of vibrant silletas that incorporate more modern and experimental aspects:

  • Silleteros: Although the smallest silletas, these elaborate flower arrangements are the first of the parade. Inspired by Antiquian heritage and honouring tradition, they are carried on the backs of local farmers.
  • Emblematic Silletas: Designs which depict civic, educational or religious themes, highlighting historical or cultural significance for the crowds.
  • Monumental Silletas: The largest constructions (reaching up to 2x2m), rooted in creativity which often experiment with colour, shape and texture.
  • Commercial Silletas: Works sponsored by companies, which join the parade as artistic mobile advertisements.

The event extends beyond merely flowers, featuring other highlights including a classic car show, a bird show and a bicycle parade, to connect the city’s cultural identity with community and tourism.
