Hydrangeas are available throughout much of the year, with different varieties appearing depending on the season. Brightly coloured hydrangeas in pinks, blues, and purples are in season in the spring and summer, whilst red and green hydrangeas at their best in the autumn. In the winter, opt for snowy white hydrangeas for that gorgeous winter wonderland look.

The name hydrangea comes from the Greek words meaning ‘water vessel’, so it’s no surprise that these flowers like plenty of water! When you trim the stems, you can also make a small cut vertically to create a slit. This helps your hydrangeas to absorb water more efficiently. Make sure to keep their vase full and topped up, and change the water every couple of days to keep them fresh and healthy. Misting your hydrangeas can also give them a boost, as hydrangeas absorb water through their flowers as well as their stems.

If your hydrangeas begin to droop, it’s very easy to revive them. Retrim the stems and then completely submerge the head and stem of the flower in tepid water. Leave the flowers underwater for at least an hour and they should perk right back up.
