Tulips

Like other spring flowers, tulips represent new beginnings and rebirth. Tulips can also be incredibly romantic, as their main meaning is one of true love, making them a fitting gift for anniversaries or Valentine’s Day.

Each colour of tulip also has its own meanings:

Red Tulips: Undying love, passion, romance

Pink Tulips: Care, confidence, best wishes, affection

Purple Tulips: Royalty, sophistication, elegance

Yellow Tulips: Joy, happiness, cheer, “There’s sunshine in your smile”

White Tulips: Purity, forgiveness, peace

Orange Tulips: Enthusiasm, passion, joy, appreciation

Tulip season begins in the late winter, and lasts throughout spring. Typically, tulips are available until April or May.

When your tulips arrive, trim the stems when they arrive and place them in a vase of water. We recommend using a narrower vase for tulips, as their heads can be a little top-heavy and this will keep the stems supported. Our tulips arrive in bud, and will open fully after a few days in water. Don’t worry if your tulips close again at night; they love light and this is completely normal.

Tulips do have one unique quirk - they continue to grow towards the light even when cut, so you might notice they’re getting taller! We recommend retrimming the stems every couple of days for all of our bouquets, so simply cut a bit more off your tulips to keep them balanced and the same height as other stems. Make sure to change the water in your vase when you do this as well to keep your tulips happy and hydrated.

If any of your tulips start to look a little droopy, wrap the stem tightly in paper to support the head, and secure the paper with tape. Trim the stem and place it in fresh water, and leave it wrapped up in the water for a few hours. This can be done to individual stems, or if needed, you can wrap several stems in the same piece of paper. Tulips grow in almost every colour, making them amazingly versatile for bouquets. In fact, the only colour you won’t find tulips in is true blue.
