How did black Friday get it's name?
Many have said that Black Friday derives from the saying "going into the black". This is because it is said to be the day when retailers become profitable due to the large amount of sales made on that day. i.e going from the red, into the black. However, there is no evidence to back this claim up. But according to most sources the name Black Friday was first created by Police in Philadelphia, US (1960). They first popularised the name "Black Friday" by saying it to express their frustration at the congestion caused by the masses of shoppers on that day.
