This Father’s Day, why not surprise your dad with something more special than the usual mug?
A plant truly makes a thoughtful gift, as it symbolises growth, care, and calm, making it perfect for father figures. Gifting your dad a plant is a way to show appreciation while bringing a bit of nature into his day. And whether he's a seasoned gardener or brand new to plant care, he’s sure to love our top plant picks…
ZZ Plant
The ZZ plant (or zamioculcas zamiifolia) is a low-maintenance house plant known for its glossy green leaves and ability to thrive in a variety of indoor conditions, making it ideal for busy dads or beginner plant parents. Native to Eastern Africa, (it’s particularly found in Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar), the plant is widely known for its resilience - it has the ability to tolerate low-light environments, making it perfect for spaces without much natural light. It also stores water in its rhizomes, which allows it to survive drought-like conditions in its natural habitat and go for weeks without watering.

Monstera
The Monstera (also known as the Swiss Cheese plant) is a popular favourite. Its full name Monstera deliciosa comes from the Latin word ‘monstrum’, meaning ‘monstrous’ or ‘abnormal’, referring to its large, perforated leaves, and ‘deliciosa’ for the edible fruit it produces in the rainforests of Central America, its natural environment (although it rarely fruits indoors). Monsteras are relatively easy to care for and bring a bold statement to any indoor space - although it’s important to note that they are toxic to pets if ingested, due to insoluble calcium oxalates.

Snake Plant
The snake plant (also known as Saint George’s sword or mother-in-law’s tongue) is a perfect choice for beginners, as it’s famed for being incredibly tough and hard to kill. They are extremely low-maintenance and need water just every 2-4 weeks in spring and summer, and once a month in winter. Although it’s tolerant of relative ‘neglect’, this plant does best in well-draining soil and appreciates occasional wiping of its leaves to remove dust.

Dracaena Marginata
Dracaena Marginata, commonly known as the Madagascar dragon tree, is easily recognised by its upright stems and long, arching leaves with red or purple edges. It can grow quite tall (up to 6 feet or more indoors), making it a keen choice for adding interest to a room. The dracaena marginata can live for over 20 years if it’s cared for properly, so avoid overwatering, prune dead leaves, re-pot every few years, and mist the leaves to keep humidity levels up.

Parlour Palm
Loved for its feathery fronds and vibrant colour, the Parlour Palm became fashionable in the Victorian era and was commonly displayed in the parlours (sitting rooms) of elegant homes, giving the plant its name. Remaining a favoured choice for interior decor in homes and offices today due to its soft, tropical appearance, this pretty palm is slow-growing and rarely flowers indoors, but mature plants may produce small, yellow, ball-like blooms in ideal conditions.

Ficus Ginseng Bonsai
Known for its thick, bulbous roots that resemble ginseng and its oval-shaped leaves, this beginner-friendly plant is ideal for display on desks, shelves, or window sills as it loves bright sunlight, but adapts easily to shade. A member of the fig family that’s traditionally found in southeast Asia, this eye-catching addition is a great choice for father figures new to caring for a bonsai, or seeking a unique indoor statement plant.

Whether it’s a Ficus Ginseng Bonsai for his office or a low-maintenance ZZ plant for his reading nook, these plants will continue to evolve, serving as a daily reminder of your love and gratitude for your dad. So get browsing and shop all our plants here, for Father’s Day and all year round.
