Help Us To Fly High With Our Charitable Donations

Here at Appleyard London we are always looking for ways to spread the floral love and support causes close to our heart. That’s why we’re delighted to have teamed up with the Royal Air Forces Association by designing an exclusive bouquet in the charity colours of red, white and blue.

When someone in the RAF family needs help, the charity they turn to is the Royal Air Forces Association. The RAF Association believes every generation owes a debt of gratitude to the RAF and their families. To protect the peace and safety we enjoy every day, they sacrifice the normal way of life most people take for granted.

In 2017 the RAF Association made more than 115,000 welfare contacts, calls and visits; spent 12,600 hours befriending lonely and isolated members of the RAF family and sourced almost £2 million to members of the RAF family who desperately needed it.

The Bouquet

In recognition of this indispensable service, our dedicated florist has chosen forget-me-not blue hydrangeas as the focal point, where the small flowers within each flower head hug closely, symbolising the united RAF family represented by the RAF Association. The sky-blue petals have then been studded with the red and white of the ever enduring rose, the symbols of love and peace.

Flowers all have associated meanings, many dating back centuries and while reflecting the colours of the RAF Association was an important creative choice, the type of flowers at the heart of this bouquet were also carefully chosen.

Contemporary florists in Japan use the hydrangea to represent genuine emotions and persevering love, with the delicate petals growing closely together and blooming more spectacularly as friends.

Red roses remain the poetic standard for love but it is the abiding nature of this association that made this flower choice perfect. The dignified petals of white roses have long been linked with formal ceremony but also represent peace and humility with a gentle nod to new and positive beginnings. Nestled together, the striking stems are then hand-tied, sitting united and could be winging their way to honour a friendship or sending a loved one’s emotions sky high in just a few clicks.

We will donate 10% of the purchase price of every specially designed RAF Association bouquet that we sell to back the amazing welfare work that the organisation does in support of the RAF family who have dedicated their lives to their country.
