Tunbridge Wells - or Royal Tunbridge Wells, to use its full and 'proper' title - has a fairly straightforward yet interesting name. Just a few miles to the north is Tonbridge, which itself is probably named after 'the bridge of the manor' or 'the town of bridges'.
