Harrogate Flower Show - When is it? Where is it? and what are the highlights?
The Harrogate Flower Shows are widely considered to be the largest and most prestigious independent shows of the year. They are organised by the North of England Horticultural Society, which is a leading gardening charity that has been around for more than 100 years. It is set up to promote and support horticulture across the north. They run Harrogate's shows twice a year, these are the Spring and Autumn shows.
To start off the gardening season, they begin with the Spring Show, this takes place between 20th and 23rd April. This show was rated Britain's best gardening event by Which?Gardening. This show welcomes over 100 of the UK's top plant nurseries and the show features the work of both established and up-and-coming designers and landscapers. The show has nearly 100,00 visitors and 1000 exhibitors each year and there are now increased opportunities for gardening groups in the new community category, allowing amateur gardeners to showcase their work to the growing crowds.
Both the spring and autumn events host a range of ‘shows within a show’ allowing specialist gardening groups to promote their work. The specialist societies have become an integral part of the events, including the National Vegetable Society (NVS) and the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS).
