Chocolate Week - 10 Facts about Chocolate

 

Possibly the most delicious, mouth-watering, divine substance on this earth. Available around the world in many, many different forms including, cakes, muffins, cookies, bars, eggs, surprise selections,(and breath) drinks and even fruits! There are even more varieties and it is often complimented by the likes of caramel, nuts, mint, fruit, honeycomb and even beetroot. Again, just to name a few.

Of course, it is CHOCOLATE!

Now there is a whole week dedicated to chocolate and its supplies, makers, brands, the cocoa trees, beans and the finished product itself. It is the event on the calender that all those with a sweet tooth most look forward to, Chocolate Week. The week commences on Monday 13th October and ends the following Sunday the 19th at midnight. Exhibitions, social media and offers galore rocket as everyone craves the sweet taste of chocolate!

To ease you into the oh so chocolatey mood, we have picked out 10 facts about chocolate. 1) The scent of chocolate increases theta brain waves, causing the relaxation triggers to engage. 

2) Chocolate is made from cocoa beans. About 40 cocoa beans are contained in each cocoa pod.

3) Each cocoa tree can produce approximately 2,500 beans in it's lifetime. However it takes 4 to 5 years for a tree to produce its first beans.

4) Cocoa has been around for millions of years. This suggests it is one of the oldest natural food sources.

5) The Ivory Coast produces more cocoa than any other country with 37%.

6) Cocoa and chocolate have become such a huge industry that over 40 million people depend on cocoa for their livelihood.

7) A single chocolate chip can give someone sufficient energy to walk 150 feet. After this you have to stand still until you eat another. OK OK, the second sentence is not true but who only eats 1 chocolate chip?

8) Theobroma Cacao is the Latin name for cocoa trees which actually means 'Food of the Gods'.

9) Dark chocolate is considered healthier than white or milk chocolate due to it being made from more cocoa beans and less sugar.

10) People who make/sell chocolate are referred to as 'chocolatiers' which is an anagram of Hitler’s Cocoa.
